“Tile” describes a shape, not one material
Victory Laser Co’s Wilmington engraving service includes suitable ceramic tile projects. But ceramic, porcelain, natural stone and coated decorative blanks should not be treated as interchangeable. Even similar-looking tiles can have different surface treatments.
Send the manufacturer or product information if available and a clear photograph of the face you want engraved. Tell us whether it is glazed, unglazed, painted, printed, textured or otherwise coated. The surface needs review before we can confirm how the artwork may appear.
If your tile is natural marble rather than ceramic, use our marble engraving page. For slate and other stone, see the slate and stone engraving overview.
Plan the artwork around the usable face
Measure the flat area available for the design, not only the outside dimensions. Raised edges, bevels, texture and existing decoration may reduce the space for readable text. Include the tile’s thickness and show which way the finished piece will be displayed.
- Names and messages: send the exact wording and identify any line that should stand out.
- Logos and line art: provide the original file where possible, with the desired width and height.
- Detailed images: submit the original image for review rather than assuming fine detail will transfer to any glaze.
- Multiple tiles: explain whether every tile uses the same design or has different text, and label each variation clearly.
A layout proof and a surface sample answer different questions
The proof is for spelling, proportions and placement. A physical test, where needed, is for the actual surface response and visible contrast. A screen preview does not establish the final color or finish of an engraving on an unfamiliar tile.
Tell us whether a spare tile from the same product and batch is available. Confirm any sample plan before supplying materials or purchasing a larger quantity. Approval of one tile does not automatically establish the same result on a different glaze, coating or product.
Explain the finished use before ordering
Share whether the piece is a decorative display, a gift or part of another project. If it will encounter water, cleaning products, abrasion or outdoor exposure, include that information at the start. Engraving alone is not a guarantee that a tile or its altered surface is suitable for that environment.
For customer-supplied tiles, see what to send before bringing your own item. Include quantity, condition and the required date so setup, sample work and scheduling can be discussed together.
Ceramic tile engraving questions
Can you engrave a glazed ceramic tile?
Glazed tile inquiries are reviewed individually. Send product details and surface photos; the presence of a glaze is a reason to evaluate the finish, not a universal yes or no.
Will the engraving be dark or light?
The visible result depends on the tile and its surface. Share the intended appearance and discuss a sample rather than choosing from an unrelated tile photo.
Do you install the finished tiles?
This service is for engraving review and production within the accepted scope. Installation is not included or implied.
